چکیده

In this paper we present a CMOS quadrature ring oscillator operating at 0.5 V. Due to this very low voltage conditions, new project technique using the available terminal of the transistors (bulk) is used in order to reduce the threshold voltage of the transistors, thus improving the voltage headroom. The technique is applied in a conventional inverter-based ring oscillator with a feedback topology capable to generate quadrature signals. Simulations results in a 130 nm CMOS technology shows that a very simple VCO in the GHz range can be obtained, by changing the bulk voltage of transistors (NMOS or PMOS). The circuit operates with less than 50 μW achieving a FoM of about -115 dBc/Hz at 10 MHz offset.

Phase noise in a back-gate biased low-voltage VCO

The phase noise in an ultra low-power and low-voltage CMOS voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) has been measured and modelled for supply voltage VDD from 1.8 V down to 80 mV with various body bias voltages V B ~ The VCO is a fully integrated ring oscillator designed in a 0.18pm CMOS technology. In this design, the frequency can be controlled by VBp The effects of scaling VDD together with the e...

Low power consumption, low phase noise ring oscillator in 0.18 μm CMOS process

In this work, a new ring voltage controlled oscillator with a two cross coupled load PMOS transistors is proposed. The proposed method preserves the maximum frequency of the VCO unaffected which leads to improvement in phase noise and the power consumption of VCO oscillators. The proposed ring oscillator implemented in 0.18μm CMOS shows the worse phase noise of -108 dBc/Hz at 10MHz offset, tuni...

A 1V 600μW 2.1GHz Quadrature VCO Using BAW Resonators

Digital RF transceiver architectures increasingly require quadrature (I/Q) local oscillator sinusoid generation, where the phasenoise and power consumption of the quadrature voltage controlled oscillator (QVCO) have a significant impact on the system performance. The relevance of VCO power consumption becomes even more urgent due to the demand for implementations of ultra-low power short-range ...

Design and Investigative Aspects of RF-Low Power 0.18-μm based CMOS Differential Ring Oscillator

This manuscript presents the designing and investigative aspects of a low power, wide frequency range, and delay cell based 3 and 5-stage ring oscillator for RF-Ultra-WideBand application. The wide range of frequency is achieved by using two variable voltage sources i.e. control voltage source (Vcntrl) and tail current source (Vtail). A tail current improvement is responsible to control the cha...

A Two-Stage Ring Oscillator in 0.13- m CMOS for UWB Impulse Radio

We present a two-stage digitally controlled ring oscillator designed mainly for impulse-radio ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. Each basic stage utilizes a local positive feedback, allowing to achieve steady oscillation at low current consumption levels, and to extend the frequency tuning over an ultra-wide range. The frequency tuning is achieved via the control of the tail resistor in each st...
